Frequently Asked Questions
How should I dress for the review?
Dress to impress! Business attire is encouraged.
Do I need to bring a printed book or presentation?
It's not required but may review the work at the end of the meeting. Leave behind pieces or business cards are welcomed.
How many people do you invite to the reviews?
We typically invite 90% of the applicants and have had up to 20 people at a review.
What is the format of the review?
Matthew gives a brief talk and introduction and then turns it over to a question and answer session giving each person an opportunity to ask a question. Followed by a studio tour and book reviews. Pizza and refreshments are provided. It's a casual session allowing for other applicants to talk to each other and see their work. We try to keep it to an hour but people tend to stay longer.
I was not accepted for a previous semester, may I reapply without attending the review?
Yes, resubmit your application with updated information and schedule. Please make a note on the application and in the email that you attended a past review and would like to be reconsidered.
I can't make the review date and time what can I do?
Unfortunately, you will have to wait until the following semester to resubmit and attend the next review.
How much hands on experience can I exspect?
As soon as your strengths are determined you will be given individual assignments and weekly projects. You will be very hands on at all of the shoots.
Do you still use film for shoots?
We ended a long love affair with film and starting shooting exclusively with Nikon digital SLRs in 2008.
How much of your work is studio vs. location?
80% studio 20% location on a yearly average.
What lighting equipment do you use?
A detailed list of our equipment can be found on our studio rental page at www.roharikproductions.com/studiorentals
Are you PC or MAC?
We have workstations in both, but will be phasing out our PC's in the future.
How many interns do you accept each semester?
We accept an average of 3 per semester.
How do you determine the intern's work schedule?
We assign 2 set days a week and try to put a day in between the 2 days. Example: Monday and Wednesday, Tuesday and Thursday, Wednesday and Friday. It set so that at least one intern is scheduled in at the studio daily.
How likely is it that I will receive employment after completion of my internship?
We hire solely from our interns for all of the studio needs. Full time work is possible but part-time freelance work is the typical outcome for outstanding performance. Our needs change as so do our clients so it's hard to predict until the completion of the internship. Each semester, we accept applicants based on our client's needs with the intention of training to fill an upcoming position.
What is the daily atmosphere of the studio like?
It's pretty laid back with music playing throughout the day on the studio sound system. The dress is casual except for photo shoot or client meeting days. We even have a cat!
After I am accepted what comes next?
You will receive a studio internship manual and will be expected to have read it before your first day. We try to have a group orientation if schedules permit.
